Mr. Reschke, following the cup game, on Wednesday, the team split for a short winter break. What is your conclusion on the first half of the campaign?
Michael Reschke: "It was clear to us that the most recent five consecutive defeats would be a tally that could speak against the team. However, we know exactly where we stand! The team proved the mentality they possess often enough during the first half of the season – which is how they secured 17 points. It’s a tally which keeps us above the drop-zone – which means we are on course. Right from the beginning of the season, it was always clear to us that it would ultimately be all about top-flight survival. With just a few exceptions, the team have been stable."
So far as the results were concerned, the first half of the season exposed many positives in front of the home fans, but a lot less positive moments in away games…
Michael Reschke: "…as extreme as our points tally at home compared to away looks, the actual performances weren’t so dissimilar. In many away games, we met out opponents at eye-level and at times it was only that bit of luck that prevented us from taking some points home with us."
Following a brief winter-break, on January 2nd, the team begin with their preparations again and the next day they head to La Manga, Spain for a six-day training camp. What do you see as the approach to be taken to the latter half of the campaign?
Michael Reschke: "We know exactly where we stand and that the second half of the season will be a massive challenge. The important thing is that we maintain our composure in and around the team. We have a good basis of mentally strong players and the framework is solid. That considered, I am completely convinced that we will achieve our goals and maintain our place in the Bundesliga."
