Over the long term, VfB Stuttgart must develop into one of the most responsible football clubs in Germany. The overarching sustainability goal in the 2026 strategy is as follows:
An excellent external ESG rating as part of the transparent and open sustainability reporting within the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU taxonomy.
Furthermore, the following sustainability goals were set out for the 2023/24 season:
- The environmental and climate protection strategy, with a focus on sustainable resource management and sustainable mobility, will be fully developed, including the decarbonization strategy.
- The proportion of fully electric service vehicles will increase and reach at least 40% by 2026.
- The proportion of VfB fans who travel to home games at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in an environmentally friendly way will increase from 60% to 63%.
- Biodiversity measures will be fully implemented at VfB Stuttgart club facilities.
- The proportion of sustainably produced textiles purchased for the 2024/25 season will increase from 90% by at least 5%.
- An increase to over 15% in the proportion of positions at the second and third levels of management which are occupied by women.
- The waste separation system at the VfB Club Centre, in the administrative building section of the Mercedes-Benz Arena and in the sections of the Carl-Benz Center used by VfB Stuttgart AG will be fully implemented.
- The use of reusable cups only will be fully implemented at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
- In public areas of the Mercedes-Benz Arena, fans will be offered at least one extra vegetarian, vegan or organic product.
- The ‘rally for education’ project will fully complete its pilot phase with at least ten participating schools and ten participating clubs.
