VfB Stuttgart’s youth training concept

VfB stands for successful youth work over the long term. Currently there are over 100 players in Europe’s top leagues who spent three years or more being trained in the club’s youth system, including the likes of Antonio Rüdiger, Joshua Kimmich, Bernd Leno, Timo Werner and Serge Gnabry. VfB Stuttgart has also won the most youth titles in Germany, with 10 at U19 and seven at U17 level.

The club is going to great efforts to maintain these levels in the future. Developing tomorrow’s professionals covers three areas which are given equal importance and which are fully complementary: youth sports training, youth school / educational training and youth character training.

Our youth training philosophy

  • At the basic level, we observe and support a variety of talented youngsters and train them without specialising too early.
  • At the development level, we establish our teams, select our top talents and develop them individually.
  • At the performance level, we prepare our players for high-level football both physically and mentally.
  • Our U21 side is the last youth level. Players who establish themselves in this team will be moved on to the first team.
  • The youth and first-team set-ups work in close conjunction.
  • Cooperation with our elite and partner football schools is an integral part of our overall youth training. Each player also receives our support in getting their best possible school qualification.

Our identity

  • We train top domestic and international players.
  • We are respectful, team-focused and love the sport.
  • Our players are well-trained and educated both in terms of sport and schooling.
  • We identify with our club.
  • We are aware of our long-standing traditions and communicate these to our players.
  • We constantly develop and evolve.
