The sports ground on Hafenbahnstraße will be white and red from now on. The first women’s team, who previously represented VfB Obertürkheim, will now wear the hoop on their chest. On Wednesday evening, VfB president Claus Vogt, CEO Alexander Wehrle and mascot Fritzle officially kicked off preparations for the upcoming 2022/2023 Oberliga (fifth tier) season at the sports complex in Obertürkheim.
It was a special moment – not only for the players but also for the history of VfB Stuttgart. “Today, a dream that many VfB fans have had for decades is finally fulfilled,” said Vogt, for whom the project is particularly close to his heart. “After 128 years, there’ll be VfB women’s football in white and red. Thanks to everyone who has actively contributed to this. Together we’ve already got a lot of things moving – our next sporting objective is immediate promotion back to the Regionalliga Süd. Our team have the potential and I firmly believe they’ll do it.”
VfB has found the right partner for this journey in VfB Obertürkheim. “VfB is taking over the first team as well as the reserve team and U17s, so that there’s the necessary foundation,” said Rainer Adrion, VfB vice-president and member of the supervisory board. “The youth teams below that will stay with VfB Obertürkheim. This cooperation is very important to us and provides the basis for our concept.”
