Mercedes-Benz Arena revamp to start in May

The general contractor has been appointed by Stadion NeckarPark GmbH & Co. KG.

The renovation of the main stand will begin in May, with the final expansion phase of Germany’s sixth-largest sports venue to be completed in time for UEFA EURO 2024. By then, Stuttgart will boast one of the most modern football stadiums in Europe.

Focus on main stand, new standing spaces in ‘Cannstatter Kurve’

The lower tier of the main stand, which dates back to 1974, will be completely rebuilt and the rest of the stand will be extended all the way to the top of the stanchions. This will create new changing rooms, sports function rooms, a new media centre, another business area and a modern production kitchen. As part of the reconstruction project, the ‘Cannstatter Kurve’ (‘Cannstatt Curve’) will also receive almost 2,000 additional standing spaces and a separate area for wheelchair users from summer 2023.

Claus Vogt, chairman of the supervisory board and president of VfB Stuttgart, and member of the Stadion NeckarPark GmbH & Co. KG supervisory board: “Everyone involved in the project has put in a great deal of hard work, and that’s going to continue until our arena is completed. NeckarPark has been VfB’s sporting home for over 100 years. The comprehensive reconstruction will leave us well placed for the future.”
