Almost three weeks after VfB kicked off their 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign at home to Freiburg, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s charges faced their league rivals from Breisgau once again in a friendly on Thursday.
The VfB head coach was deprived of seven players who were unavailable due to international duty, but captain Castro converted a penalty as early as the seventh minute to put VfB ahead, with Bredlow denying Freiburg’s Lucas Höler an equaliser from the spot 11 minutes later.
In the second half Coulibaly took full advantage of a cross from Konstantinos Mavropanos to make it 2-0 just past the hour-mark (62’), before he also got on the end of Nikos Zografakis’ right-wing delivery to round out the scoring in the 83rd minute.
VfB head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo: "We’re pleased with the game. It was a good test, especially for the boys who haven’t played much recently, or who are returning from injuries. The players from the youth academy were able to gain some important experience too."
