VfB Stuttgart got the better of FC St. Gallen in Friday’s friendly, easing to an 8-3 win at the Robert-Schlienz-Stadion. Sebastian Hoeneß’s team were without their international players against the Swiss top-flight side, but recent signing Anthony Rouault was involved and put in a “solid display”, in the words of the head coach. “Anthony brings a certain composure on the ball and is strong in the tackle,” Hoeneß said.
Comfortable victory
Not for the first time this season, VfB dominated their opponents with a committed display, coming from behind to lead 3-1 at half-time thanks to goals from Jamie Leweling, Enzo Millot and Lilian Egloff. Hoeneß’s charges turned on the style in the second period to record a thoroughly deserved 8-3 triumph.
VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We played well for prolonged periods, but I obviously don’t like the second and third goals we conceded. They were too easy, although they did come after we’d made our substitutions. One thing that does make me happy, of course, is the return of Thomas Kastanaras. After a really long period of frustration, he marked his return with two goals. That’ll do him good.”
