“Really looking forward to it”

Maximilian Mittelstädt on Germany’s upcoming EURO 2024 Group A game against Hungary in Stuttgart, and his role as left-back in the team.

Ahead of Germany’s second group game at this summer’s European Championship on Wednesday (kick-off 18:00 CEST), VfB left-back Maximilian Mittelstädt talked to the media about…

… playing in Stuttgart:

“I’m really looking forward to the game tomorrow. I’ve got lots of nice memories from this stadium this season and I hope I’ll have another nice memory here tomorrow.”

… his family:

“My girlfriend and my entire family will be in the stadium tomorrow. Obviously it’s not easy being away from each other for several weeks at a time, but we’re still in touch a lot. I’m really looking forward to seeing them all tomorrow.”

… his position as full-back:

“I always have to find the right balance between defence and attack. In some situations I can interpret my role in the national team in a similar way to how I do for VfB. Up ahead of me are lots of players with top-class individual quality who are always capable of creating something special. The same was true at VfB this past season.”

… upcoming opponents Hungary:

“It’ll be a different game to the one against Scotland. In that match we showed what we’re capable of and we need to do the same against Hungary. We need to be at 100 percent and can’t ease off at any moment. Hungary are compact at the back and are good at set pieces. We all need to be focused, efficient, alert and make the most of our chances.”
