Match facts FC Hansa Rostock vs. VfB

The first competitive game of the 2018/2019 campaign will see VfB in action in Germany’s far north. On Saturday evening, in the first round of the DFB Cup, coach Tayfun Korkut’s men face third-flight F.C. Hansa Rostock. Kick-off in the ‘Ostseestadion‘ is set for 20:45 CEST. We’ve put together all the important facts and statistics ahead of the cup tie.

Tally from the VfB viewpoint (Bundesliga and DFB-Cup)

Total: 27 games, 11 wins, 9 draws, 7 defeats, 49:34 goal-difference

Home: 12 games, 9 wins, 3 draws, 0 defeats, 29:8 goal-difference

Away: 15 games, 2 wins, 6 draws, 7 defeats, 20:26 goal-difference

Going the distance

Some 2,500 VfB fans are expected to make the 620-kilometre trip from Stuttgart to Rostock. Only a clash with SC Weiche Flensburg 08 would have meant a longer journey for the White-Red fateful.

Looking back

VfB’s last competitive meeting with the side from the Hanseatic city dates back to the 2007/2008 season. On that occasion, the Cannstatt Boys won their home game on Bundesliga matchday 25 comfortably, with a 4-1 score-line. Mario Gomez was on target, netting an assist from Andreas Beck.

Cup clashes

VfB and Hansa have locked horns on three previous occasions in the DFB Cup, with the Cannstatt club narrowly coming up short on each occasion in Rostock. VfB’s Bundesliga tally against Hansa is far better, with eleven wins in 24 meetings.

Familiar faces

In Rostock, VfB will see one familiar face. Pascal Breier spent ten years in the shirt with the infamous hoop, playing for VfB’s youth teams through to the reserves. In 155 games in the '3. Liga' and 'Regionalliga', Breier scored 36 goals for the Wasenelf.
