Perchtold has signed a two-year contract with VfB to become the club’s new assistant coach. The Nuremberg-born 35-year-old returns to his former stomping ground, having made two Bundesliga appearances for VfB as well as 90 outings for the second team between 2005 and 2008.
After hanging up his boots, Perchtold enjoyed spells as coach and assistant coach of 1. FSV Mainz 05’s youth team, where he worked with current VfB youth academy director Thomas Krücken. His most recent role was as assistant coach of FC Schalke 04.
Poimann has also joined VfB’s backroom team ahead of the new campaign. The 31-year-old, who becomes the club’s new sports psychologist on a two-year deal, currently performs a similar role with Germany’s Under-19 side - a position he will continue to hold in conjunction with his new role at VfB. Born in Würzburg, Poimann joins the club from the Red Bull Academy in Austria, where he has worked for two and a half years.
VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat: “In Peter Perchtold, we’ve appointed an assistant coach with experience at first-team and youth-team level. As assistant coach, Peter will also be responsible for nurturing our most talented youngsters and will be the first point of contact to the youth department. Building and developing the characters of playing, coaching and backroom staff has taken on an important role in football. In Dino Poimann, we’ve appointed an expert in that particular field for our first team, and we’d like to offer him and Peter a warm welcome to VfB.”
