One week before the team gets together for pre-season training on 2 July, the German Football League (DFL) announced the fixture list this Friday for the 2021/22 Bundesliga season. VfB launch their campaign at home at the Mercedes-Benz Arena with a visit on either 14 or 15 August from promoted side Greuther Fürth. The first away match of 2021/22 for head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men will be the following weekend (20–22 August) at RB Leipzig.
“Greuther Fürth very much deserved their promotion to the Bundesliga and that achievement will give them plenty of confidence," said VfB sporting director Sven Mislinat when asked about the start of the 2021/22 season. "We will obviously be working intensively over the coming weeks towards the start of the season and it’s clear that we’ll be looking to kick things off with a positive result in the league. We really hope that as many fans as possible will be allowed to attend the match.”
