Erik Thommy will not wear the red and white shirt next season. He and VfB have agreed not to renew the midfielder’s contract beyond the summer. Thommy has been with the Cannstatt club since January 2018, spending the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf. The 27-year-old made 52 Bundesliga appearances and two in the DFB Cup for Stuttgart.
VfB thanks Thommy for his service and wishes him all the best for his future.
VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat: “Last season wasn’t the best for Erik because of injury and he was out of action for a long time. The way he worked his way back after that difficult period shows his professionalism and desire. We wish Erik all the best for his future on and off the pitch, and thank him for his time at VfB.”
Erik Thommy: “I’ve always given everything for VfB from day one and will always be thankful for the time here. Wonderful moments such as the 4-1 win in Munich or the season finale against 1. FC Köln will stay with me forever.”
