Mateo Klimowicz has joined Bundesliga 2 side Arminia Bielefeld on loan until the end of the season. The 2021 European U21 Championship winner joined VfB in summer 2019 and went on to make 40 Bundesliga appearances (one goal), as well as five in the DFB Cup (one goal) and seven in the second tier.
Klimowicz’s VfB contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2024, has been extended by 12 months until 30 June 2025 as part of the loan agreement.
Sporting director Sven Mislintat:
“Mateo hasn’t had the playing time lately that is important for a player of his age. Arminia Bielefeld will offer him that opportunity, so the loan makes a lot of sense for everyone involved. Our contract extension with Mateo emphasises the fact that he features heavily in our plans.”
