After a weekend without a Bundesliga match, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s VfB side take on one of their direct rivals in the table when they visit VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday (kick-off 15:30 CEST). Sixteenth-placed Stuttgart sit just above the Wolves in 17th, although both teams currently have five points on the board.
“We’re looking forward to this game,” said VfB defender Waldemar Anton. “Everyone wants to get involved and turn things around. We used the time off to go over the past few weeks, which we could have got a lot more out of.”
All the more motivation for VfB to claim their first league win of the season in Lower Saxony. For Anton, who grew up in Hanover and cut his footballing teeth at Hannover 96, the encounter will feel like something of a home match. “As a kid from Lower Saxony, it’s something special,” said the 26-year-old, adding that VfB will need to show determination on the pitch to get a positive result this weekend. “In every duel, it’ll come down to who wants to win the game more.”
