Stenzel extends

VfB and Pascal Stenzel have agreed terms on an extension to the defender’s contract that was set to expire at the end of the season. The 27-year-old will now stay at the club until at least 30 June 2026.

Stenzel came to Stuttgart on loan from SC Freiburg in summer 2019, with the transfer being made permanent in 2020 after the club had won promotion back to the Bundesliga. The full-back has gone on to become one of VfB’s most experienced players with 107 appearances (and one goal) to his name – 63 in the top flight, 34 in Bundesliga 2 and 10 in the DFB Cup. Stenzel has played 12 league matches this season, 11 of them in the starting line-up, as well as appearing in two cup matches.

And there will be plenty more appearances to come, both this season and beyond, with VfB deciding to renew the reliable defender’s contract that was due to expire in June, adding on another two years.

Pascal Stenzel is one of the most technically skilled players in our squad and has established himself as a solid presence in the dressing room,” said VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth. “He has become very attached to Stuttgart and the surrounding region, and to VfB on a personal level. We’re delighted that ‘Calle’ will be wearing a VfB jersey for a good while to come.“

I feel really at home here and I’ve now been at VfB longer than any other club as a pro,” said Stenzel. “I’m happy to be part of this club and I’m looking forward to the future here. Despite the fact that our last match against Mönchengladbach really didn’t go according to plan, we did have a good first half to the season and we’re looking to build on that in the coming weeks.”
