After three years at VfB, Konstantinos Mavropanos has left the club to return to the Premier League. The defender, who joined Stuttgart on loan from Arsenal in 2020 before making his move permanent in summer 2022, has signed for West Ham United.
Since making his VfB debut in October 2020, the 25-year-old has made 80 appearances in the Bundesliga (six goals), seven in the DFB Cup (one goal) and two in the relegation/promotion play-offs (one goal). His aerial prowess, tireless playing style and uncompromising challenges helped him blossom into a key player for both VfB and the Greek national team, for whom he has won 19 caps since his debut in 2021. Mavropanos registered the second highest tackle success rate in the Bundesliga last season, coming out on top in 69.1 per cent of his duels.
VfB would like to thank Konstantinos Mavropanos for his commitment during his time at the club and wish him all the best for his new challenge.
VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth: “Dinos is not one to go hiding. He’s a leader and an inspiration to others, particularly when things get tough and tricky. His uncompromising, athletic style of play has caught the eye at home and abroad. Both Dinos and everyone at VfB can be very proud of his development into a Greek international and a highly sought-after player across the continent. Dinos was eager to seize the opportunity to return to the Premier League and he informed us of his wishes. There are also obvious financial incentives related to the move which led to us accepting the transfer. We thank Dinos sincerely for his unwavering commitment while at VfB and wish him all the best for the future, both in his private life and on the pitch.”
