Draw with 10 men

VfB Stuttgart fought back from a man down and 2-1 down to draw 2-2 at Holstein Kiel.

Match summary:

Holstein Kiel were a threat from the start with their quick transitional play against a VfB defence depleted by injury. The first goal in a hard-fought contest came from VfB, though, Jamie Leweling opening the scoring from Enzo Millot’s pass in the 15th minute. However, the hosts kept plugging away and equalised on the half-hour mark courtesy of Steven Skrzybski.

Eventful start to second half

The second period began with a shock for VfB as Kiel took the lead almost instantly through Skrzybski’s second goal. Things got worse for the visitors minutes later when Leonidas Stergiou was shown a red card for bringing down the Kiel goalscorer.

Despite being outnumbered, VfB showed the right response and Ermedin Demirovic levelled the score at 2-2 after good work from Nick Woltemade. With a man advantage, the home side then put Stuttgart under increasing pressure, with Sebastian Hoeneß’s men rarely getting respite. A valiant defensive display secured a point in the end.

Matchday 25: Holstein Kiel - VfB Stuttgart

Goals:

15th minute: Millot won the ball in midfield and played it into the path of Jamie Leweling, who burst into the Kiel penalty box and fired low into the far corner to give VfB the lead.

30th minute: After a long throw-in by the hosts, VfB failed to clear the ball out of the danger zone. Instead, Kiel's Skrzybski had a free shot from a few metres out and scored the equaliser.

46th minute: Immediately from the kick-off, Skrzybski, 20 metres from goal, got on the end of a long ball, shot straight away and beat Alexander Nübel ten seconds after the restart.

55th minute: Woltemade brought a long ball under control and held off his marker in the Kiel penalty area. On the byline, he squared to Demirovic, who slotted past KSV goalkeeper Timon Weiner into the left-hand corner for an important equaliser.
