After almost two years with the club, Serhou Guirassy is leaving VfB Stuttgart to join Borussia Dortmund ahead of the forthcoming season. The striker moved to Bad Cannstatt initially on loan from Stade Rennes on 1 September 2022 and immediately established himself as a key member of the team. Ahead of the relegation play-off, VfB signed the Guinea international on a permanent contract in May 2023 and he proved to be a crucial factor in the fight to stay up.
In the following 2023/24 campaign, Guirassy broke the record for most goals by a VfB player in a single Bundesliga season with 28, as well as setting other impressive records to help the team finish second.
Fabian Wohlgemuth, board member for sport: “We thank Serhou for two exceptional years in the white and red shirt. In his first season with us, Serhou made a significant contribution to VfB staying in the Bundesliga. With his goals last season, he was a key player on the road to finishing as runners-up.
“Right up until his final day at VfB Stuttgart, Serhou always acted as a great sportsman. We’ve always had a very open dialogue about his future sporting plans, marked by mutual trust. Serhou knows that we made great efforts to keep him here. At the end of a great time together, we respect his decision and wish Serhou and his family all the best for the future.”
Serhou Guirassy: “I’ve had the best two years of my career here. Thank you so much for welcoming me and giving me the best opportunity to fully express myself on the pitch. Even though I’m beginning a new chapter in my career today, I will always keep Stuttgart in my heart. I wish you all the best for the future and have no doubt that big things are in store for this extraordinary club. Thanks for everything.”
