Alexander Nübel is back

After enjoying an extended break, Alexander Nübel was back on the pitch for Thursday morning's public training session.

There was a palpable sense of enthusiasm among the VfB fans when Alexander Nübel took to the pitch at the Robert-Schlienz-Stadion for the public training session on Thursday. The VfB No.33 recharged his batteries over the past few weeks following an extended break as a result of being called up to the German national team, but is now back to work in Stuttgart. We spoke to him about his time on holiday and his return to the training pitch.

Alex, it's good to have you back. How does it feel to return to training with the team after such a long time away?

Alexander Nübel: "I can't wait to see the boys again and I'm delighted to be here and training with them. I've really been looking forward to it over the past few days."

You trained with the German national team before going on holiday. How did you follow the European Championship while you were on vacation?

Alexander Nübel: "If you've been part of the team and have trained with the national side for two weeks, then it feels a bit different. I watched every game, and I was here in the stadium for the home game against Hungary. It was fun and I thought a lot of the teams' goalkeepers were very good."

The European Championship is now over and there have been a few changes here recently.
Alexander Nübel: "Yes, I've had to learn a few names already, both among the players and the staff. Fortunately, I've been here for a year so I know most people already, but it's still nice to meet the new lads. I'm looking forward to the coming season and going to Japan, which I'm sure will be a cool trip."
