Atakan Karazor named new captain

VfB has a new captain, with head coach Sebastian Hoeneß naming Atakan Karazor as Waldemar Anton’s successor. ‘Ata’ joined VfB in 2019 and is one of the longest-serving players in the first-team squad. The midfielder has made 141 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and setting up another seven. This summer, he signed an early contract extension, tying him to VfB through to 2028.

“Ata has been part of the club since 2019 and is one of our most experienced players – he really identifies with VfB,” said head coach Sebastian Hoeneß. “Last season, he was already someone whose opinion I valued, as well as being a real leader and example out on the pitch. With his skills as a player and his experience, Ata is the ideal person to be leading the team.”

“It’s a real honour for me to be captain of this team,” said Karazor. “I’ve been a VfB player since 2019, and I’ve come to love the club, the city and the fans. I’ll do everything in my powers to repay the faith that’s been shown in me. As a team, we want to be worthy of representing VfB in every match we play and put in the best performances that we can.”
