The tribunal reasoned that referee Daniel Schlager had not made an obvious error. As a result, Nick Woltemade’s suspension for his sending off after receiving a second yellow card remains in effect, and VfB will be without the forward for the Bundesliga match at Union Berlin.
CEO Alexander Wehrle: “We’re disappointed with the tribunal’s ruling because we believe that the referee did make a clear error. Nick Woltemade made minimal contact with the opposing player and did not commit a foul. Even the referee, Daniel Schlager, said it was a mistake to issue a yellow card and send him off after viewing the television footage following the final whistle. From our point of view, it would therefore have been the right decision to rescind Nick's suspension for the upcoming Bundesliga match against Union Berlin. However, as things stand we have no choice but to accept the sports tribunal’s decision, even if it leaves us with an uncomfortable feeling.”
