An impressive 8,000 fans will accompany VfB on their trip to Borussia Dortmund this Saturday (kick-off 15:30 CET) as Sebastian Hoeneß’s side look to build on their three-game winning run against BVB in the Bundesliga. “The motivation is very high to deliver a really good away performance, even if it’s going to be a big challenge,” said the VfB head coach on Friday.
The difficulty of the task at hand is down to a number of factors. Despite sitting in 11th place in the Bundesliga table, Dortmund have started to turn the corner under interim coach Mike Tullberg, drawing 2-2 with Werder Bremen and beating Heidenheim 2-1. On Saturday, new boss Niko Kovac will also be taking charge of the club for the first time, although that is no cause for concern for Hoeneß. “It’s a normal process,” he said. “When a new coach takes over and takes charge of his first game, preparing for the opposition becomes a bit different.”
Luca Jaquez and Finn Jeltsch available, Enzo Millot doubtful
“We want to use the momentum from reaching the DFB Cup semi-finals and give our all, physically and mentally, in order to get a positive result against a BVB side who are very strong at home,” continued the 42-year-old, who will have winter signings Luca Jaquez and Finn Jeltsch at his disposal but may have to do without Enzo Millot. “We know about Daxo, ElBilal, Luca Raimund and Ameen AlDakhil. We have three players who are ill in Nick Woltemade, Josha Vagnoman and Jacob BruunLarsen. There’s also a question mark over Enzo Millot,” Sebastian Hoeneß said.
