“A moment that will live long in the memory”

Jacob Bruun Larsen, Nick Woltemade and Sebastian Hoeneß give their reaction to the 2-1 win over Leipzig.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “I wasn’t unhappy with our first half because I had the feeling that we were still in the game. One point we can criticise is the way we conceded the goal. We took more risks in the second half but largely stayed in control. On top of that, the fans gave us incredible support and spurred us on. We can be very pleased with this win; it feels really good right now.”

Jacob Bruun Larsen: “I’m delighted. My last home game for VfB was a long time ago. My aim today was for the crowd to applaud when I came on or off the pitch. It was an incredible match. It was a moment that will live long in the memory. We played well in the first half but were still just lacking something. Overall, we all believed in ourselves, contested the tackles well and were brave. That’s why we were able to turn the game around and win it.”

Nick Woltemade: “It was a really important win. We knew the stadium would erupt as soon as we scored our first goal. Our equaliser unleashed an enormous amount of energy. I was very happy to have scored, it was a very emotional moment. We could have made it 3-1 but we made things unnecessarily tense towards the end. Matches against your direct rivals are always very important. Now we’re switching our focus to our home game on Saturday at 15:30 CET. That will be special again. We’ve still got a score to settle with Freiburg from the reverse fixture this season and we’re all really looking forward to it.”
