Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We started the game well and created chances right from the start but unfortunately we weren’t able to reward ourselves for our efforts. The message at half-time was to just stay patient. We managed to find a way through Bochum’s robust defence relatively early in the second half. It was an important goal and it opened the game up. I’m pleased we won in the end. Now we can travel to Belgrade with a positive feeling with this win in the bag.”
Chris Führich: “We had to be patient. Bochum are a very awkward team to play against, and they often sit back very deep when they don’t have the ball. It was important that we took the lead after the break. The most important thing is always the team’s performance. If I can score to help the team in situations like that then I’m happy to do so.”
Justin Diehl: “I’m delighted that I got my chance today and that I scored my first goal. I’m very grateful for that. Just last week I was talking about the unbelievable atmosphere at the MHP Arena, so I can barely believe that I’ve just scored my first goal for VfB here. The boys were all happy for me. It’s unbelievable and I’m a little bit lost for words.”
