VfB sign Luca Jaquez

The central defender joins VfB Stuttgart from Swiss side FC Luzern on a contract until 2029.

VfB Stuttgart have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of centre-back Luca Jaquez, who joins from Swiss top-flight side FC Luzern on a contract until 30 June 2029. The 21-year-old 1.87m defender will wear the number 14 shirt for head coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s side.

New signing Luca Jaquez: “It’s a great opportunity and a great challenge for me to play for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. I want to repay the trust placed in me with great commitment and performances and help the team achieve the goals it has set itself. I’m really looking forward to my time here and am 100 percent motivated.”

Fabian Wohlgemuth, board member for sport: “In Luca Jaquez, we’ve gained another option for our central defence. Despite his young age, Luca has played an impressive number of games at senior level. We’re confident he’ll be able to help us immediately while also taking further steps in his development in his new environment.”

Born in Lucerne on 2 June 2003, Jaquez holds Swiss and Dominican citizenship. He took his first footballing steps at regional club SC Obergeissenstein before joining the FC Luzern youth department. He made his Swiss Super League debut as an 18-year-old on 30 January 2022 and went on to make 60 appearances in the country’s top flight, scoring three goals.

He has made ten appearances for his country at youth level and has recently become a regular fixture in Switzerland’s Under-21 squad.
