Super-subs
Sebastian Hoeneß has shown a bit of a magic touch with his substitutions this season. Players he’s brought on have registered 10 direct goal involvements (including eight goals) over the course of the 15 matchdays so far. The most prolific of those have been Fabian Rieder (one goal and two assists) and Nick Woltemade, who’s provided three goals off the bench.
Late goals
Out of all Bundesliga teams, only Bayern Munich have scored more goals from the 76th minute onwards than VfB. While the league leaders have netted 12 times in this window, Stuttgart have found the net on 10 occasions between the 76th minute and final whistle.
New signings delivering
Deniz Undav (seven goals in all competitions, one assist), Ermedin Demirovic (nine goals, three assists) and Woltemade (seven goals, one assist) are demonstrating their quality. The currently injured El Bilal (three goals, one assist), Rieder (one goal, seven assists), Yannik Keitel (one goal) and Justin Diehl (one goal, one assist) have also got off the mark in a VfB shirt.
Points on the board
With 23 points after 15 games, VfB are currently enjoying their second-best campaign since the title-winning season in 2006/07 (28 points at this stage), topped only by last season (31 points after 15 games).
Consistent in the cup
VfB are in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup for the third year running. Only once in the club’s history have they reached the last eight more often in succession: five times in a row between the 1996/97 and 2000/01 seasons.
Stuttgart international
In the international break in October, VfB sent six players to the German national team for the first time ever and formed the biggest contingent in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad by some distance. Both Alexander Nübel and Jamie Leweling made their senior international debuts, a month after Angelo Stiller. In Chris Führich (debut in November 2023), Deniz Undav, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Waldemar Anton (all debuts in March 2024) as well, a total of seven VfB players pulled on the Germany shirt in 2024.
