Developing young talents and coaches in South Korea

In conjunction with Porsche, VfB is training talented youth footballers in South Korea as well as working with coaches throughout the country.

The hat-trick is complete! For the third time, VfB has spent a number of days carrying out training and observation sessions along with further development units for coaches in South Korea, working intensively on site with talented young players, coaches and partners. The programme, run in conjunction with Porsche Korea and ISEA (the International Sports Exchange Association), focuses on developing young talents and giving them a closer insight into VfB footballing culture. Of particular note was the fact that a total of 12 players were given funding to travel to Stuttgart as part of the partnership, to get a hands-on experience of German football and of VfB.

Using the VfB philosophy to develop and encourage

Professional VfB coaches carried out the football training programme on site, in cooperation with VfB’s football school and based on the Cannstatt club’s philosophy. The programme included technical and tactical sessions as well as information about the Bundesliga, Stuttgart as a state capital and even some basics of the German language. The VfB delegation also provided further training for South Korean coaches, giving them among other things methodological pointers on how to plan training sessions and concepts.

The three camps all took place at the end of March in different parts of the capital city Seoul, namely Doksan, Gangnam and Daechi.

Football building bridges between nations

Another highlight was an invitation to the German embassy and a chance to talk with the German ambassador to Korea, Georg Schmidt. VfB also received a visit in South Korea from a delegation which included Florian Hassler, Baden-Württemberg’s Secretary of State and the region’s representative to the European Union, illustrating the recognition that VfB’s continued commitment to Korea is gaining.

In a further meeting held in the embassy residence, VfB were able to talk with Jörn Beißert, Deputy Chief of Mission of the German embassy in Korea, and Baden-Württemberg’s Transport Minister Winfried Hermann.
