Disappointment in Norway
Compared to the side that began in the 2-0 win over 1. FC Nürnberg at the weekend, head coach Bruno Labbadia made three changes, with Gotoku Sakai, William Kvist and Raphael Holzhauser making way for Antonio Rüdiger, Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Tamas Hajnal at the Aker-Stadium.
It was then the Norwegians who had the first sight of goal after four minutes. Pape-Pate Diouf let fly from the edge of the box but Sven Ulreich was equal to the effort.
Traoré hits the upright
Two minutes later, VfB hit back with some chances of their own. Antonio Rüdiger made a break down the right and crossed to Vedad Ibisevic, whose effort was not well dealt with by keeper Espen Pettersen, but the loose ball fell to Ibrahima Traoré, whose follow up shot struck the post much to VfB’s frustrations.
VfB were on the attack again in the 24th minute, with Cristian Molinaro breaking down the left and playing through to Tamas Hajnal, but the Hungarian international’s shot narrowly missed the target and the sides went in at the break still locked at 0-0.

The second half
Vedad Ibisevic was the first VfB player to make an impact in the second half but was unable to find the target with his first effort and then, in the 58th minute, Vibe suddenly found themselves a goal down. With their first real chance of the half, Jo-Inga Beget headed the Norwegians into a 1-0 lead.
Vibe then had luck on their side with efforts from Daniel Chime and then from Jo-Inga Beget both hitting the post. A minute later, Bruno Labadie decided it was time for a fresh approach and made a double switch, bringing Cacao and Holzhauser in to replace Traoré and Hajnal.
VfB head coach Bruno Labbadia: “We were simply not determined enough."

Molde batton down the hatches
It was then to become all the more difficult for VfB, with Molde shutting up shop and waiting for then chance to hit on the break. In the 82nd minute, Arthur Boka came in, with Antonio Rüdiger making way, and 120 second later, the Ivory Coast international won a free-kick but Sedad Ibisevic was unable to find the target with the resulting set piece.
At the other end, Molde then struck again. VfB had opened up in search of an equalizer but with the defence at a stretch, Daniel Chima took his chance to make it 2-0 (88’). That was to prove the final result, with Bruno Labbadia’s side failing to impress in the second period and suffering a bitter defeat at the Aker-Stadium.
