Traoré scores against his former club
VfB made the perfect start to the game and took an early lead, as Ibrahima Traoré fired home against his former employers to make it 1-0. The winger profited from an impressive solo run and subsequent delivery across the face of the goal by Vedad Ibisevic. In the 19th minute, Cristian Molinaro tried his luck with a drive from the edge of the box but the Italian’s effort was blocked away.
Holzhauser narrowly wide – Koo levels
With Vedad Ibisevic having cleverly slipped his marker, Gotoku Sakai took possession and played a pass to the centre, finding Raphael Holzhauser. The Austrian slid in to make a connection but narrowly missed the target, putting his chance wide of Mohamed Amsif’s goal.
With the bulk of the spectators in the Arena already preparing for the half time break, Ja-Cheol Koo caught the VfB defence unawares, firstly dipping past a couple of defenders and then firing unstoppably past Sven Ulreich into the top corner of the net to make it 1-1 going into the break.
VfB keeper Sven Ulreich: "That wasn’t a good game, but we knew beforehand that it would be difficult."

Ibisevic restores the VfB lead
In the 52nd minute, Bruno Labbadia brought in Tamas Hajnal to replace Raphael Holzhauser. The head-coach had the plan of using some fresh legs to increase the pressure on FC Augsburg. Initially the FCA defence were able to hold their own but eventually, the home side broke down the defensive wall. From a Traoré free-kick delivery, Vedad Ibisevic rose to head his side into a 2-1 lead (69’).
Soon after, Zdravko Kuzmanovic was introduced to replace Christian Gentner and the Serbian midfielder was on hand to see keeper Sven Ulreich make a stunning stop from Sascha Mölders, before then going on to deny Stephan Hain (80’) and Ja-Cheol Koo (82’).
The keeper was kept on his toes right to the final whistle but as so often, was steady as a rock and ensured that VfB held onto their advantage and took the full complement of points with a 2-1 win.
