VfB head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo: “It was a measured, tactical first half in which neither team wanted to make mistakes. We came out stronger for the second half and it wasn’t long before we took a deserved lead. Bielefeld increased the pressure after that and tried to take control of proceedings. For the equaliser, a foul could have been awarded for an elbow on Pascal Stenzel, but Bielefeld had two aerial opportunities through Fabian Klos moments beforehand. A draw is an OK result at the end of the day. We’ll turn our attentions to next weekend, when we’ll try and get another three points.”
Gonzalo Castro: “We wanted to get more from the game. We did well until we took the lead. It was 50-50 whether to give a foul or not in the build-up to the equaliser. We need to accept the referee’s decision.”
Pascal Stenzel: “After taking the lead, we relinquished our dominance on the game and became too passive. Nobody would have complained if a foul had been awarded before the equaliser, but I can understand why it wasn’t given. We need to take the point and keep going. A draw isn’t the end of the world. There are still nine games to go. We need to focus on ourselves.”
