VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We have to view the first half in separate parts. In the first 10 minutes we made breakthroughs in the final third, which is also how the opening goal for Jamie Leweling came about. I wasn’t pleased with the remaining 35 minutes of the first half – we can’t be pleased with that. The energy and intensity weren’t at the level they should be. We then concede the equaliser – very frustrating. However, after the sending-off I have to praise my team for how they dealt with it. We made it 2-2 and were hoping to snatch a winner. All in all, the first half wasn’t good enough, the second half was good in difficult circumstances.”
Atakan Karazor: “Kiel had a good plan, which we initially didn’t have answers to. We did better in the second half and defended well with 10 men. We’re conceding goals too easily at the moment, though.”
Nick Woltemade: “If you look over the course of the match, we can be satisfied with the point. We had a very poor first half and went into the break at 1-1. We wanted to do a lot in the second half, but we concede after 10 seconds and then score the equaliser a man down. That’s always difficult.”
